Hi, 1st ti Jason Wetherill ; I am the q-tip bitter apple advisor and believe me she will connect the bitter apple to the biting if you are consistent and use it only for that at this time. Ferrets are VERY smart and will associate the act of their biting to your action of the bitter apple q-tip.... My Meetoo has been being much better the last few days since I started this again, I guess I just didn't keep it up long enough the first time for her. Her sissy Precious was the same age and was biting just the same as her but she completely quit this when confronted with the bitter apple q-tip. I also tried the spraying of it on my legs etc.... but it never deterred them. NONE of my 8 seem to let the bitter apple get in their way when they want to do something but getting it full strength directly in the mouth causes them to rethink the whole thing..... I have noticed with a little time they do seem to stop biting as much and calm down some but each ferret is his/her own "person" and reacts very differently to things. I have read of some ferrets that just keep biting and such for a very, very long time but most do eventuaally quit this behavior. Meetoo hasn't been chomping on my feet and legs but still insists on waking me by crawling under my covers and tiny biting my legs all over until I gently drop her over the edge of the bed or couch "3" times. Also she loves to climb people and her way of saying hi is to stick her nose in your ear and then lick your ear all over, and then sometimes a chomp on the earlobe (practicing her ear piercing technique she swears,,,,,, sure baby sure)!!!!!!! Hope this helps some! The one name I would love to use (but with 8 see no newbie in the near future) is FANCY!!!! From the song by Reba McEntire!!!! Any beautiful little girl should just love this name I think!!!! So feel free to use it if you like!!!! To anyone wanting a soothing cream for skin I would use Aloe Vera gel on it since this is extremely healing and 100% natural and cannot harm your babies even if they ingest it. My mom's doglet (father of my Silly) has major health probs that can cause real upset tummy and the like and she gives it to him in the liquid form straight and she sees a positive change within 1/2 hour!!!! To Michelle Matta - I have heard from the moment I joined this list that all white footed ferrets have the ability to teleport to places (since it is unexplainable how else they got there!) but so far my SABLE is the teleporter and Meetoo the white footed wonder does not teleport at all. She is MUCH more into climbing PEOPLE!!!!! Up my back to my head and perch there (what a nut!)!!!! She is also the one that LOVES to wardance at me on the bed and OOOOOPS!, you got it , into mid-air and plunk to the ground. But she just climbs back up and goes for more. She even jumps right into my face when I have it at her level jumping at her with my head, yikes, close eyes quick and duck head!!!!!! Fang has now learned exceptionally well that in order to get in and out doors he must scratch on them just as loud as the dogs do!!! I never know who or what I will find now when I open the door!!!! LOL..... He is the only one that has learned this and he is obviously keeping it to himself (OH Ferret God Thank You)!! And speaking of F.A.N.G. - FERRET ASSOCIATION OF NEVERENDING GLEE! We are located in Boise, Idaho so if any of you Idaho subscribers are out there give me a jingle and let's talk!!!! Tell anyone you know with ferrets or that just loves ferrets all about us and have them call too! THANKS! Phone # 208-342-7292 or e-mail me! To Lindy Garner ; I don't personally know anything about the vet in Moscow but since I AM in Idaho I would gladly ask around at my vets and other places I can contact if you would like. Just let me know and I'll let my fingers do the dialing anytime! As I mentioned before I too used the clear carpet protector in the same way mentioned last nite under my bedroom door and Voila! no more digging, then at a door leading outside I used the metal carpet protector strip there and Voila! same thing so this is an easily conquerable problem. Go to any home improvement or hardware store and they should have these. Also NOT expensive thank heavens to get either of these or both depending on the need! To Carol Maynard - EVERYTHING I have ever read on the care of ferrets recommends bathing them every 2 to 4 weeks depending on the need. [Moderator's note: Then I guess you haven't been reading the FML! Lots of us here don't believe in regular ferret bathing. BIG] Imagine what our skin would do if we never bathed or just kept spraying on deodorant???? Even in cold weather this shouldn't be a big problem, I take a space heater in the bathroom w/me and turn it on to warm the room well (placed on top of toilet so they can't get to it) and then leave tons of towels on the floor so they can rummage in them and dry themselves. It gets pretty hot in there so I escape out the door when I can and just leave them in there a short while (with the heater now turned off) or I give them a quick little blowdry job and out they come..... They don't mind the blowdryer much and pay NO attention to the heater when it is on the toilet. You might try the aloe-vera gel on your baby's back to heal it well and then use Avon Skin-so-soft bath oil on them after the baths. It keeps the skin in good shape and is suppossed to repel fleas (so I've heard since I have not THIS problem yet)!!!!! I've always heard that if vitamins are not done regularly they probably aren't doing any good. We and animals dissipate many vitamins from our system constantly so they must be replaced constantly to do any good! You might want to give them these consistently or not at all. The vets have said if you are feeding them the proper food they shouldn't need the vitamins anyway.... I know you are doing all this for their good so please don't take my advice the wrong way. You sound like a great mommy that is great enough to ask for advice when she is not sure what to do for her babies best health...... Hope I've been of some help..... Sorry this was so long guys, [Posted in FML issue 1345]
