Someone was mentioning that their ferret had lumpy things behind their ears and that when they scrubbed them, the tissue broke and there was some blood. Sounds like a problem we had with Geisha, my abandoned soul. She had nits - especially around her ears and on her neck and shoulders. We filled the bathroom sink with really hot water and while one of us held her, the other used tweezers to pluck off the yucky little buggers then dip the tweezers in the hot water to kill 'em good! We bathed her about once a week and used flea powder from my vet (okay for little kittens and ferrets) each day; keeping her isolated from the others and powdering them every other day to make sure no one got her "cooties". We also made thorough daily checks everywhere and plucked all the nits (they were sometimes white & egg-like or reddish with blood - YUCK!!!). Poor thing hated it but I'm sure was much happier two weeks later without such nasties! As for the ferret with the extra big ribs on one side - what about the name Sideribs?? (Order of Sideribs??) Well, enough for now - happy ferret dancing! D. Pasquino/G. Peters Toronto, Ontario [Posted in FML issue 1322]
