I don't think you should. I would suggest either sneaking the ferret in a regular pet carrier (as another animal) so they don't get sent through the X-Ray, or else bring them in your coat. I used to travel often by bus and I'd hide my ferrets in my jacket. The bus driver couldn't figure out why I'd keep bringing an empty carrier on the bus ;). Even if the X-Rays aren't safe, consider what the airline personnel will do when he sees a ferret skeleton on his X-Ray monitor :) Dave [Posted in FML issue 1270]
