As a science teacher, we get LOTS of equipment packaged in this stuff. Out of scientific curiosity, I have eaten the packaging material. It tastes like corn, and breaks down very quickly once it hits liquid. So if your Ferret swallowed it, it would dissolve quickly and not pose a blockage problem. My techer friends and I ate a bunch and none of us suffered any ill effects! Personally, I would tend to think that it would be much safer than styrofoam and other types of packaging materials.
