Mish, Have you considered setting up the cage in the ferret room and just leaving the door open? That way, they will have their hammies, and a secure place to crash that's familiar. When my guys are done playing, most of them go right back to their cage and curl up in a hammie and go to sleep. The cage door is open so they have the freedom to go in and out as they like, and then when I'm gone, I shut the cage doors to keep them safe.
