I recently took charge of a four month old dog ferret. He is a huge
happy healthy looking boy but he has problems with his back legs. I was told
that he was poorly nourished as a kit and had been on a course of steroids and
antibiotics, but I couldn't quite get the guy to say what had been the problem.
He gets around O.K. but his back feet stick out like flippers and he doesn't
seem to be able to stand up straight on them. He gets around Sea-Lion fashion.
He is perfectly O.K. otherwise really friendly and a general chunk of a ferret.
Anybody have any idea what could have gone wrong? I saw others in the litter
alot worse and some in another litter with the same problem. Could it be
genetic? The Mother was fine as were the other adults I saw. Could there be
problems later? I am taking him to the vet to be neutered and AD tested so will
ask their opinion but to be honest vets here (U.K.) aren't too hot on ferrets.
Your thoughts appreciated.
