CBS morning news carried a segment on ferrets this morning. Although it started out fine, interviewing several pro-ferret folks in California, it quickly degenerated into typical media hysteria. The reporter interviewed a girl who was apparently mauled by a ferret when she was 29 months old (her nose suffered extreme trauma) and interview someone from the Humane Society who claimed that ferrets would kill birds and mammals if they escaped and that the society has files on dozens of accounts of ferrets attacking children. (I have in my hand a list of 57 card-carrying communists in the State Department!!!) She also mentioned that the Humane Society is opposed the legalization in CA and supports a ban on ferrest in *all* states! Also, the reported mentioned in passing that ferret activists claim there is some doubt about the ferret attack on the girl mentioned in the piece. Does anyone know what she was talking about? While I'm at it I should introduce my guys. I subscribed to the list right after I bought them back in December. I have two brown sables, Mojo (male) and Pogo (female). Both are 8 months old now. Mojo is getting huge (>3 lbs) and will eat anything that I shove in his face. He has a tendency to follow me everywhere around my apartment and sit at my feet. Pogo on the other hand won't eat anything but ferret food and tends to ignore most of the time. She does have an odd obsession with shampoo bottle tops. She loves chewing on the ridges of the cap. It may be fun for her but it makes a fingernails-on-the-chalkboard sound that drives me up the wall. eddie -- Ed McCreary Compaq Computers "Spoooooooon!"
