I'm forwarding this message to the FML that I received yesterday. It's interesting for several reasons: 1) I'm not a California resident 2) I haven't sent any messages to Mr. Cunneen 3) The extent of my efforts in the legalization area is maintaining (or trying to maintain) the Ferret Free Zone list 4) The only place I use the email address he used is on the Ferret Free Zone list on Pam Greene's Web page off Ferret Central (did he see the Web page?) Anyhow, I thought Californians would be interested in the message, particularly since he says reconsideration of the bill has been granted. Katie Philadelphia ---- Begin Forwarded Message Date: Mon, 1 May 1995 14:36:43 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jim F. Cunneen" <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Ferrets To: [log in to unmask] Dear Ms. Fritz: I have recently become aware of your efforts in the area of legalizing the domestic ferret. I wish to communicate my support to you for the current legislative proposal, SB 55, authored by my colleague Senator Quentin Kopp. As you know, this bill proposes to allow the importation and possession of domestic ferrets without owners having to obtain a permit. Californians would have to have documentation to ensure that their ferret has been vaccinated (with vaccines approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture), and spayed or neutured. SB 55 was heard in the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee on April 25th. At that time, the bill failed to pass out of committee, but reconsideration has been granted. Please be assured that you can count on my support should this bill come to the full Assembly for a vote. I recognize how important this issue is to thousands of Californians who cherish their right to keep domestic ferrets as pets.
