To Chere McCoy >I cannot tell you how important those heartworm test and the Heartworm >Preventative is - I am hoping that Bruce Williams will see this >message and he will tell you. Chere - I certainly agree wth you. Everyone with ferrets in heartworm endemic areas should check with their vets about getting them on a heartworm prevention program. It's so simple - just part of a tablet or a liquid only once a month - just like you do for your dogs. Florida, where Chere is from, seems to be especially bad - most reported cases occur there, and there is an extremely high rate of heartworm disease in dogs, too. Being inside is absolutely no protection - the disease is transmitted by mosquitoes, which come indoors, too. This is a devastating disease that is so easily prevented - talk to your vet about getting your ferret on prevention today.
