A couple of years ago we had just gotten a new baby named Grover. I was working 12-hour shifts managing a bar/deli and Len was out of town for a few days. Because our other 4 ferrets were beating up on baby, I left them out as usual, but closed the door so Grover had the bedroom all to himself. I returned home hot, tired, and ready for a quick cuddle with the fuzzies and a nice long sleep. The adult (yeah, right!) crew were asleep under the couch, so I decided to take a shower and go to bed, with Grovie for company. I opened the bedroom door to get a fresh towel and check on his food dish... and to my very great surprise, there was a 2 inch high wall of water pouring out of the newly opened doorway! I shoved the door open all the way to discover a stream of water sluicing down the side of the waterbed, the clean towels were now sopping wet and arranged against the back of the door, and there was the little guy, eyes wild and joyous, dooking "look at me mom, look at me!" Indeed. He'd been in and out of the litterbox and the litter had formed little mudballs on his feet. He had been running and sliding all over (the footprints and skid marks on the high spots of the floor were evidence) and apparently had trouble putting the brakes on, as there were foot-and-skid prints on the baseboards. I've never been closer to killing anyone as that sweet little fuzzball just then. He ran over to me and sat on my foot, wrapping his front legs around my ankle. I started laughing so hard I had to sit down (yes, in the water). Need- less to say, I had to call my downstairs neighbors and I spent the next 3 hours cleaning up both apartments. Sigh. Our ferrets aren't allowed in the bedroom anymore, and Grover was moved in with the others and is a very happy ferret. My condolances to all who have suffered losses recently. It broke our hearts to lose Cooper, so we know how you feel. Incidently, that is how we ended up with Clemmie and Grover, trying to recover from Cooper's death. love and dooks! Marya (the mom), Molly (still a baby at 5), Emma (why don't I get to taste a waterbed? is it like raisins Grove?), Grover (surf's up!), Boo-boo (someday I'm gonna get that rug, and bite it 'til its really dead!) and Zach the human baby.
