My reaction to people having trouble finding an apartment that will allow
ferrets is: "How Odd". Around here (NW burbs of Chicago, particularly
Palatine area), we had more trouble getting apartments that accept cats
than ferrets and iguana. They simply asked if they (ferrets and iguana)
were caged pets. SInce they are, no problem. No pet deposit or pet
rent. (It wasn't much of a fib to say they stay in their cage. I don't
trust the fuzz brains out without supervision.) Cats on the other hand
were much more likely to require deposit, rent, and declawing. But it
wasn't that hard to find a place without any of those requirement. Most
apartments also limited dogs to less than 40 pounds, if at all.

Good luck on your searching.
