To Deborah Micklea: I know the UFO gurantee you are speaking of.....and if I am not mistaken, that paper guarantee's only that the ferret is neutered and descented. If you found the ferret NOT to have either or both of those procedures, the "anonymous" FF you spoke of would have to reimburse you for your costs to have these procedures done. Some places will offer a 30 day health guarantee - if you take your ferret to a vet and he finds somes health problem, you can oftentimes take the ferret back to the breeder/store and they will give you another ferret or a refund....of course, this means the ferret you return will be most likely be euthanized. It does not mean that the store/breeder will cover any medical expenses you rack up over the course of the ferret's lifetime because of a congenital problem. In my own case, I will take back (although have never had to yet) a kit should a serious congenital defect be found, I will replace if possible, or refund, but I will keep the "defective" kit myself. Actually, 1 kit from last year's litter wasn't doing well, so I elected not to sell him at all. He seems to have balance and motor control problems; we're not sure if it's because "mom" tried to eat him when he was first born and he did have a big chunk of the back of his neck bitten off. Not wanting to disappoint a new ferret owner, and wanting to make sure he got any necessary medical treatment if necessary, I kept him myself. He's a sweet ferret and very loving; he just has trouble balancing sometimes. But that's all the guarantee covers - neutering and descenting. Debbie Riccio WNYFLFA [Posted in FML issue 1170]
