Ferret Friends: Hi, been lurking since February. Figured it was time to at least make a quick intro. I've had Polar Bear since Oct '94. Pooper & Wompy belong to my friend, Jeanette. I've been forwarding the FML Digest to Jeanette via the Net. She can receive e-mail (using ccmail). But has been unsuccessful subscribing to the Digest directly - any suggestions? [Moderator's note: Ask her to write to ferret-request and ask to subscribe! BIG] Thanks to all - The insight gained from this list and the FAQ has been extremely beneficial. I hope to meet some FMLers at the LAFF mtg in April - just joined! Any other members get this list? Thanks again, Paul P.S. Jeanette asked me to submit the following: From: [log in to unmask] I have a good story to tell you... On Sunday (3/26/95) Paul & I brought home our fourth - tentatively named "Maggie" by her adoptive mother. Apparently, she was found some time mid last year outside flea-bitten & scraggly when she was rescued. Here's how it all started... about 2 weeks ago, we decided to go to what we thought would be a mini ferret show here in Arlington. Turns out it was just one woman (Ava) w/two ferrets (Maggie & Max) & a whole lot of information regarding ferret maintenance & the Loudoun County Ferret Fanciers (LAFF) organization. We packed up Polar Bear (Paul's black-eyed white) & Wompy (my second - silver mitt) & headed out to see. As soon as I saw Maggie, I fell in love. She's a silver hair & is just gorgeous!!! I decided to let Paul have her since I already have two (Pooper & Wompy). I was worried about how Polar Bear would react to a new ferret so we didn't put them together Sunday night. Last night, they sort of "played" together under close supervision - sniffed each other & barked a little - nothing much really. Polar's pretty easy going, so I think Maggie's got a real good chance at quick acceptance. Last night, Paul picked Maggie up & she fell asleep on his lap - FOR 2 1/2 HOURS - she was totally sprawled out (in her best Playboy pose) - she's taken to him completely. On top of that, we put her in the cage w/ Polar Bear, & I found them this morning sleeping together on the hammock cute as little angels. I figure in about a week or 2 I'll introduce her to Pooper. I'm too afraid he'll start playing "Neander-ferret" & start dragging Maggie around in a "she my cave-ferret" manner. So, I'll introduce them slowly. Lately, he's taken to clamping on to Wompy's neck & not letting go (the smell of a raisin is the only thing that will make him release her - I haven't decided to give any to him yet - I'm afraid he'll think he's doing a good thing by holding Wompy). So, anyway... that's my story. Just wanted to let you know good things happen to ferrets sometimes. Jeanette "Ferret Lady" Phillips *** Pooper the Neanderferret *** Pooper, the friendly ferret the friendliest ferret you know He only comes close when he wants to beg but his owners, we love him so Pooper, the friendly ferret the cutest mustela there is He grabs his sister & never lets go 'Cause he refuses to just give in He always stands up straight whenever he wants raisins He never has to wait & he doesn't like us hesitatin' We just don't understand how Pooper just lies around When Polar & Wompy wanna play He sleeps behind the couch Pooper, the friendly ferret the best little guy to have He always comes to give a kiss & bring us all a laugh!! ----------------------------- Paul J.
