I wrote last week about the ferret being euthanized over my protest at
the local animal shelter here in Kent Co Mich. Even though I was unable
to get the paper too excited about it a reporter did call the shelter and
put the fear of god (or the fear of public opinion) into the director.
Yesterday Holly (who works for me and is also involved in ferrets) and I
went to see one of the high up's in the Health Dept. which oversees the
shelter. They were more than happy to listen, not only will they not
euthanize any more ferrets but they agreed to set up a panel to study the
question of ferret placement from the shelter. They were also interested
in possibly referring ferrets to a rescue group we're in the process of
creating. So for now at least ferrets are again safe in the county..
unless of course the Humane Society gets a hold of them.. sigh...
