Hi. This is my first time posting something on the FML. Hopefully someone will be able to help me. My mother and I have four ferrets. Baby and Bell live with me at school(I'm in college). Silver and Y live at home with mom, dad and brother. We got our four friends in August. I have had no problems with allergies and them, which is great since I'm deathly allergic to cats, but my poor mother has not had it so easy. She has allergies to nothing, BUT since November, she has been sick. At first we thought she had a cold, but colds don't last 4 months. Nothing really seems to help her. She had a CT-Scan and it showed that her sinus's were very messed up. On Thur. she is going to an allergist to get tested to see if its the ferrets. We're very upset that she might be allergic to them, as we don't want to get rid of Silver and Y, but it is not realistic that I have the time to care for 4 ferrets(I'm pre-med). Has anyone else had allergy problems with ferrets? Or does anyone know how to solve the problem without getting rid of them? When we bought our ferrets(all Marshall Farms), we were told that people don't develop allergies to them. Now, we don't know what we are going to do. Even if we were(god forbid) to get rid of Silver and Y, she is going to have to care for my two babies over the summer as I will be in Greece. Please help, as we are sick at the thought of getting rid of two of our kids. All four get along soo well, that the thought of separating them permenently doesn't seem possible. Also, does anyone know how to train a ferret to stop climbing up the outside of the cage. We have two cages, each 3 feet tall, 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. No matter what we do, they climb to the top and either jump to nearby furniture or sit on the top until we take them down. Our ferrets are very well behaved other that the climbing thing. They all used the litter box from day one and now respond to many verbal commands. They also recognize certain objects and know what to do when they see them. Sorry this is so long, but its my first time posting and I have tons of questions. Please help with any information that you have: [log in to unmask] Thanks alot- Lisa, Baby, Bell, Silver and Y(the only male) P.S- keep a lookout for pictures in the Ferret Photo Gallery of us, we should be there soon.
