howdy folks: josephus is still hanging on. We've taken him to dr. Schiff's everyday since thursday. His latest treatment is 80ml of Pediolyte per day (done at 2hour intervals, 24 hours a day, and if we can get more into him, good), we're off the amoxilicn and onto Bayril #5 5.7mg, 1/2 tablet, twic a day, for 10 days, and liquid pred, 2ml, 4 times a day for 7 days, then less frequent for the next two weeks. Josephus has been diagnosed with autoimmune hemolytic anemia(His red blood cells have been marked as foreign so his immune system was/is killing them off) . Seems that it is not unheard of in ferrets after adrenal surgery. the very good news is that he ate five raisans so far today on his own. this is the first solid food he's eaten since Wednesday. Meanwhile, Larry and I are exhausted.... What is the going rate for ferrets in pet stores? I ask because now that they are legal here in Michigan, I guess that they are around $300 each (from what I've been told). I'm actually pretty happy about that (they are so expensive) because it makes them less of an impulse purchase (at least until the novelty of them goes away). Also, I was very happy to hear that at least one pet store dr. Schiff was doing work for was NOT buying from Marshall Farms, but was buying from a breeder named Doug McKay (419-253-1921 - I have three ferrets from him and they are beautiful) and having dr. Schiff fix them at a later age then MF does. Also, I have an amusing beagle story. We ended up sheltering a beagle for the past two weeks (and dogs are not cats, so we discovered). Spitze would growl anytime the cats got near here bones, but would push the same bones to the ferrets (of course, the bones were larger then the ferrets!). She seemed to think they were puppies, I guess. beckers, larry, the wild nine (we found a home for the beagle), and the sick sephus -- beckers (becki kain) "words are just dust in deserts of sound." eldritch [Posted in FML issue 1117]
