I'm reposting this one...(small clerical error - Charlie's been a vet for 5 years, not 3 - he looks younger than he is - but everyone looks young to an old warhorse like me....) For those ferret owners in the MD and D.C. areas (even southern PA) who have been looking for a good ferret vet, I want to give a plug for Charlie Weiss, who is on staff at the Potomac Animal Hospital, in Potomac MD. (301) - 299-4142/4143. Charlie is a very knowledgable vet who has been out of school about FIVE years. He has a keen interest in ferrets and would like to broaden his ferret caseload. He is well-versed in the common surgeries (insulinoma and adrenal) and does that at a very reasonable price. The clinic carries FerVac-D and Imrab for their ferret clients. I first met Charlie about two years ago, when I started doing all of the pathology work for his hospital. I take both of my dogs there, and do all of my routine ferret work there. Charlie is a very caring and kind individual, who has called me on Sundays and even on Thanksgiving day with bloodwork results on my ferrets. Colleen and I trust him implicitly, and I wouldn't recommend him if I didn't. I haven't talked with anyone who has met Charlie that doesn't think the world of him. Additionally, Charlie's clinic is only about ten minutes away. He never hesitates to call to discuss ferret cases when he has a question. (No, I get no kickback on fees; I just feel that there are very few good ferret vets around, and want to add another to the list. In my professional opinion, I have found Charlie Weiss to be a capable, and most importantly, caring vet. He and Mike Scott (also at PAH) have always been far more concerned with the animal and the owner than the fee, and I admire that. There are so few of us left....Let me assure you, he's certainly worth a drive. I have also contacted Pam Grant of STAR Ferrets, who has since added him to the STAR Database.) (We're trying to get Charlie set up online - hopefully we will soon have him on Compuserve and maybe even here.....right now we're trying to find a provider that has a local number - he lives 20 minutes from D.C and it's a long distance call.)
