Hi all. Are there any dangers associated with ferrets eating paper? Charlotte and Kitka LOVE it and will steal it off the coffee table at all possible. We try to keep it out of reach but they are amazing, as you all know. Today I left them asleep in their new favorite spot, an endtable bottom drawer with a towel in it (We gave up the couch battle and bought a futon). I went out for about 40 minutes. When I came back they were sleeping and I assumed they had been the whole time until I looked at the computer desk. Mind you this is a tall desk, about three feet off the floor. We still can't figure out *how* they did it, but they had obviously been on top of it. A mangled envelope half was recovered from under the endtable. All evening their stools have been almost completely paper. It is undigested and very, well, firm. It feels like a piece of damp dense paper. Literally it is almost nothing else. It looks as though it would cause problems, but they seem fine otherwise and I've read that paper is no big deal for their little digestive systems. I still would appreciate any thoughts or experiences anyone might share. We had our first vet visit the other day. It went very well. In order to get a stool for the fecal check the vet took their temperatures rectally. She said it would stimulate them to produce. Kitka fought like a tiger, so Charlotte ended up being the only one tested. (Since they aren't around other animals the vet said they would almost surely be the same. Does this sound accurate?) Charlotte made some sad chirpping sounds at first but then seemed to give up. She looked so forlorn. I was sad. I know it is for their own good, but I hate to see them suffer. My heart just breaks. Thanks for letting me ramble... Paula & Matt (the humans) Charlotte & Kitka (the document shredders) [Posted in FML issue 1012]
