To Alyssa Dailey - Prolapsed rectums in ferrets generally arise as a result of straining. They often accompany diarrrheal diseases in ferrets, especially in kits. The cuase of this problem in your ferret is most likely the scent gland abnormality. Prolapsed rectums are a source of irritation, discomfort, and may become infected, as the animal will generally lick and rub them. You can use a variety of creams on an inflamed rectum, which you can get from your vet, but the problem will most liley recur if the problem is not corrected. I would suggest you talk with your vet and see if he/she can finish the descenting job. With that, and a bit of care, the recutm should probably straighten itself out again.
