Hello all. I just wanted to let everyone on the FML know what the results were of Havok's autopsy. As you know if you read this list regularly, I lost my 5-year-old male silver mitt, Havok, to Lymphosarcoma just a couple weeks ago. He was exhibiting poor mobility in his hindquarters, and had to be put down only three days after I brought him in for tests. Dr. Kemmerer said that the exact cause of death was intercardiac lymphosarcoma - the first case she has ever seen where the cancer attacked the heart muscle itself. She believes that to be the underlying factor as to why he went downhill so fast. I present this information for those of you who are trying to learn as much as possible about the apparently innumerable causes for ferret mortality. I also hope that other vets out there reading this list may be able to comment on this form of lympho. Have any of you had a ferret with this exact form of lympho, and if so, was it diagnosed in time to do anything about it? In the meantime, I will be burying Havok in my backyard this weekend to keep his memory as close to me as possible. I haven't considered getting new fuzzies yet, the death of Havok is still too fresh. I must say, however, that I enjoy reading the stories of others and their weasels. Keeps me comforted. One last thing for Chris. Do you know where I can get FML #'s 185-196? I was reading with interest the chronology of Fritter, and the file I downloaded from Compuserve was missing these issues which, I assume contains more information about that cancer battle. Do they exist? Thanks. [All backissues back to 001 are available from cunyvm. See the header to this issue.] Jeff [Posted in FML issue 0854]
