Howdy! It is my pleasure to announce, TA-DA!!!! ************MOSES, THE TOO-FAR FERRET!!!!************** (big fanfare here) Yes, the Bowring Berger klan has increased by one more Ferret Fuzzy. He is/was a MASKeteer Ferret, and we picked him up yesterday. He is (according to Michelle, who gets her info from experience and FURO), a Dark Silver Hue, Mitted and Bibbed. He even has a tip of white on his tail. We were introduced to his father and grandfather, both of whom were good sized and loved to play. He is SOOOO small, he's 7 wks, and fits comfortably into Michael's hand when curled up. This is our first tiny baby, Davey was 10wks when we got him/Spice was 8 months, and so we are going thru much for the first time. For instance, when we introduced the new baby to the established couple. It was scary! Lots of dominance actions--scruffing, cries, musking. I am happy to report that little Moses is a scrapper (that will prob be his nickname) and gave almost as good as he took. That's saying a lot for somebody so small! Davey is over 3 lbs, and Spice is near 2 1/2 lbs. (proud parental smile here, of all three) We call him MOSES THE TOO-FAR FERRET because of the GREAT distance we traveled to attain him--881.7 miles round trip. Not as far as some others, perhaps, but definately too far for one weekend! But, I definately believe that he is worth it. Now, for a first-time baby owner question: how long do I allow them to interact while they are becoming aquainted? I have no qualms about letting them fight it out, for the reasons stated above. However, it is hard to watch such a *little* guy get "beat up" on. I think we'll wait a week before I put them in the same cage; until then we'll place the cages next to each other. And give them supervised play time together. Am I being too cautious? my best friend, (tell Marya I said hi, Lenny!) told me, "It's just a baby ferret. Nothing difficult, nothing big." I think she's right. Thanks for letting me babble. We now have five animals--good grief! Take care, Kelly and Michael (humans) (in order of appearance) Mattie Jo Trubower (feline) Firsa Ferret-Friend (feline) Davey Scrabbles (ferret) Spice Demon-Ferret (ferret) AND Moses, the Too-Far Ferret!!!
