howdy folks: escher, my five year old marshall farms sable started acting very strangely tuesday night. she seemed to have trouble with her back legs keeping up with her front legs. also, she started dazing out, just laying there with her eyes open but no activity. we could even touch her nose, which usually illicits a twitch even if she's asleep. nothing. she was like this for about two hours, then seemed to come out of it when tieke, who had just gotten done eating, came over and wrapped himself around her. i put some food in front of her and voraciously ate about 50 pieces of science diet, got up, drank, ran around, and was just, in general, normal. i had called the vet who couldn't come because of other emergencies but wasn't too worried about her since she was eating. none of the other five are showing any signs of anything. anyone have any ideas on what could have happened to her? it looked to us like she had a stroke. on to socializing niblet. she's kept in a cage now (none of the other five ever had) and let out in very supervised sessions. i've found that putting a harness on her helps - when things get out of control and i think she's going to spray, i just pick her up. she's been spraying a lot less since sunday, her first day with us. i also took them all out yesterday on their harnesses in the backyard. she sprayed once and got all in a fuss, but then, seemed to be looking for attention from the other ferrets as opposed to fighting. a good sign. does anyone have any other ideas for socializing her? i still haven't heard anything from anyone out there. thanks beckers, larry, and the even wilder eleven [Posted in FML issue 0771]
