Attention California residents!!!!!!!!! I apologize if this information has already been sent to this list. I found out about it too late to plan on going, but I have called my assembly-person. Attached is text from a flyer my sister found on the UC Davis campus (typos are my sister's ;-): ---- Begin Included Message ---- Californina Domestic Ferret Association P.O. Box 1868 Healdsburg ca. 95448 tel: (707) 431-2277 Fax: (707) 431-2769 Ferret Legalization Alert On Jan 11, 1994, Assemblyman Jan Goldsmith (R) introduced Assembly Bill 2497. Senator Quentin Kopp (I) signed on as a co-author in the senate, and assemblyman Dede Alpert (D) also signed on as a co-sponsor. We need more co-sponsers!!! Please call and write your own assemblyperson and ask them to support AB 2497. On march 7, 1994, at 10:00am, there is going to be a rally on the steps of the state capitol in Sacramento. We need as many people to attend this rally as possible. This may be the most important rally for ferrets ever held. On the following day, March 8, 1994, the Water, Parks and Wildlife committee, to whom this bill was assigned, will be voting on this bill. If we can put several hundred people on the Capitol steps demonstrating for the passsage of the bill, it will make a good impression. So...please, please, please,...get organized and car pool to the rally. Whle you are doing pro-ferret things, you might also consider phone calls and letters to your own Assemblypersons to see if you can schedule a drop in appointment while you are at the Capitol, just to show your support for the AB 2497. They will listen to the electorate if they know what their electorate wants! Particularly important are calls and letters of support to all the members of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee whose addresses and phonw numbers are listed on the back of the Ferrets Anon. Newsletter. If your representative is on this committee, please, take the time now to express your support of AB 2497 now. Later may be too late. The official position of the California Veterinary Federation has officially stated they do not oppose AB 2497 and further that legalization of donestic ferrets would have no impact what-so-ever on poultry. Please call our number if you need further information. ----- End Included Message ----- Go, go, go, AB2497!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Linda (ferret-less, but hoping . . . ) [Posted in FML issue 0746]
