Hi! I've acquired two female kits in the last few months, and I'm completely enamoured with ferrets now (I've always had lots of pets, but never carpet sharks). It's really nice to find this wonderful source of info; I've read both the Winstead and the Morton books, but the FAQ and the back issues have been a great source of more detailed info. Anyway, I have lots of questions, but I'm going to try and control myself and not ask all of them at once. My first question is simple, probably: my youngest ferret, Sunny, is an odd mix of colors I've never seen explicitly discussed (although it's entirely possible I've missed something). Her undercoat is very white and she has lots of jet black guard hairs. All four feet are white, and she has an extremely large white bib on her chest, leading up to her face, which is also white, except for a few dark hairs around the eyes. Her tail is solid black with a few long white hairs thrown in for good measure. She has a white stripe going from her forehead back to her "shoulders." Her nose is bright pink, and her eyes don't have a maroon tint. I, of course, think she's *beautiful*. Is she a mutt, or is this what a "blaze" is, or (probably most likely) is she a sable mitt with more white than normal? Or, also likely, is she one of those creatures you get when trying to breed for a certain color but don't quite get what you want? Thanks for any suggestions! -Pam, Sonic, and Sunny [log in to unmask] [Posted in FML issue 0770]
