We posted the following on rec.pets earlier and received some good information. One of the suggestions we received was to post the letter on The FML which We are doing now. Thank you Chris Lewis for this type of opportunity.... My SO and I have two female ferrets, aged one and two years.... Both of them were bought being spayed. About a month ago the younger one showed signs of being in heat, a very swollen vulva. We knew that this is bad news for female ferrets because of infections and anemia. We quickly contacted a couple of veterinarians who knew some things about ferrets (Not easy being in Glendale, CA) and took her in to have "exploratory surgery" to make sure she was spayed and spayed properly. It turns out that she was... Her behavior hasn't changed. She still eats and drinks, poops and pees normally. The veterinarian we took her to is at a loss now. He said that the swelling is external and that as long as she behaves normally, don't worry about it.. But we still do. Her condition has lasted a couple of months now so if anyone has any suggestions about what could be wrong please post the idea here. Thanx for your consideration, Dave and Anita: Jasla and Brandy [Posted in FML issue 0768]
