Well, after HOURS of arguing with the county today, we are one giant step closer to a totally ferret-friendly state.. We still have at least two points we cannot accept in the proposal, but all the rest have been worked out (We cut the suggested $50 a year licensing fee to $10, for one thing) - we still are opposed to mandatory sterilization of ALL animals in the state, although we have said we will GLADLY pay a much higher fee to own an unfixed animal. opur main concern now is that the county still feels it has the right to inspect the homes of ferret owners periodically, to be sure we are meeting `housing and care requirements'. We are opposed to this, as you can guess. Does anyone out there have any ideas that might help us convince the county that this procedure is WRONG? - the proposal went to the county attourney's today, to be drawn up in a bill - in a month or so, we will discuss it one final time, we MUST have a good argument by that time. Secondly - did I hear correctly about the Kansas trial? did Deborah Briggs of the Kansas Ferret Research Project testify AGAINST ferrets? I really would like more information on this, as I was considering sending her a donation (I DO want to see a proven shed time set for ferrets, I do NOT intend to donate to a woman who is anti-ferret. Please give me the details on this matter, allright? (whether I heard correctly, what was said, WHY?, etc..)
