RE: Ferrets in research I guess it would depend upon the TYPE of research one is doing with our fantastic fuzzies. If you're talking about any form of research from which the ferret does not directly benefit, then I'fd have to say "NO" to it. But, as one who voted to send several lymphoma positive ferrets to M.I.T. to participate in the research of that ferret malady by Dr. Fox and Erdman, I know the value that such research can ultimately be in extending the longevity of these carpet sharks. I'd welcome feedback from MIT on the progress of such research. I work (or rather volunteer) in a shelter that currently has about 5 lymphoma positive ferrets. Unless they are fostered, they will spend the rest of their lives in the shelter. I'm aware that there are (or were) tests being conducted on ferrets that didn't have much (if any) merit . Draize, LD-50 and the lot... But I think we must differentiate between the types and merits of testing. The old PETA adage that "Any use of an animal is ABUSE of an animal" is just fancy rhetoric. That's my opinion, anyway. ============================================================================== Roger D. McMillian ([log in to unmask]) Owned by Cinnamon Bear, CH. Megabuyte, CH.
