Dear slinky enthusiasts, 1. Re FFZ's Does anyone have a list of all known Ferret Free Zones? This could be a large list. I know that California is one, and I thought Michigan, Utah, Hawaii, and perhaps Massachusetts were as well. I heard there are various counties and cities as well that have not seen the light (most recently around Dallas?). I was wondering if anyone had an exhaustive list (you could send to me, and I could summarize for the list if there are answers). 2. Re claws in bells Something unexpected with little bells on collars: Sunday morning Dors (insane little female) got one of her front claws stuck in her bell. Fortunately, I noticed immediately (she was flopping about trying to extract it). The problem is the bell has a little Y-shaped slot, into which, if you are unlucky enough to stick your claw, your claw can easily get wedged, because the top of the Y-hole guides your claw into the smaller slot-area. If you have a solution, or if you know of a good source for very small bells into which claws won't get wedged in this way (a constant-width slot would be safer than Y-shaped), I'd like to hear about it. 3. Re Michelle & collars and bells The only kind of collar I've ever found stays on is ball chain. I bought a toilet ball chain kit at the local hardware store. For bells, try to find a bead store (though they sometimes have meager quality bells). For tags, I don't know. Try to find the smallest possible (I haven't found a good solution here). 4. Re Kathryn Michelle Krowl & butt jumpy's loss & recovery Thank God you retrieved her. One can only hope one ferret-proofs well enough (and this story shows the importance of such). Perhaps I should be training my little friends to come running at the sound of a bell or bicycle horn. Todd P.
