Hi, my ferret Baby is about 7.5 months old. He seems to be going through his first coat change. I don't know very much about ferret colorings and stuff, and I haven't seen very many ferrets for the basis of comparison, but when I got him as a kit I was told he was a 'dark sable'. For the last couple weeks he's been shedding and now pretty much the rear half of him minus his tail has shorter fur which is softer and fuzzier than usual. I have kept looking at him and wondering why he appears blue lately. I thought maybe his new underfur was just whiter, and hence appeared blue, especially in comparison to the slightly beige underfur of my cinnamon ferret Damien. There's also a lot of blue in my room which i thought maybe was reflecting somehow. But now I have decided that he appears to be turning silver. This is very cool and all, but seems odd. Could he be turning into a silver mitt?? Also, I have never noticed my other ferret Damien, 13 months, go through a coat change. Did I just not notice it or could he have not had one yet? I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. Thanks, Jill [Posted in FML issue 0459]
