Laura- It's great that Uof I at least has a course that includes ferrets. That they STILL view them as "exotics" is a bit sad, though. One vet in my area had a price break-down in his fee schedule for "exotics" that charged a bit more for routine procedures , simply because the ferret was considered an "exotic" animal. I asked him to look up the definition for "exotic". He did and it ran somthing like "of foreign origin, strange". I noted that MOST of the dog and cat breeds in this country are "or foreign origin" - German Shepard, Siamese Cat Rhodesian Ridgeback... Afghan Hound etc... After a meeting with the partners at this clinic, he dropped the "Exotic" price list.
