In Issue 233, I think it was Chris who commented... >[Typical Ca claptrap. There are two recorded incidents where a ferret >has seriously harmed or killed a child. One in the UK and one in Denver. In March 1991, AP reported that Vivian Bettencourt, a 2 1/2 month-old baby, died after she was repeatedly bitten in her sleep by the family's pet ferret. This was in Hillsboro, Oregon (a suburb of Portland). The police chief was quoted as saying it was "one of the most gruesome investigations our detectives have ever had to work on." (Heck, looks like things are pretty boring in Hillsboro). The state medical examiner said he knew of no other fatal attacks anywhere in the US, "although ... the animals [ferrets] are blamed for numerous attacks on people." Not sure how to take that, and I certainly don't mean to imply that California does not have an attitude problem! Bill [Posted in FML issue 0234]
