hello.. I have a two year old, sable, female named Niki. Recently she has been scratching herself in such a manner that small sores appear on her skin. This happened once before and so, thinking it was a rash, I took her to our vet who passed it off as long nails scratching her skin. My problem is that I keep cutting her nails but cant seem to get them short enough(or get her still enough) to keep her from cutting herself. I decided my next train of action would be to check why she is scratching. I changed her bedding and used new detergent and looked for fleas. But she continues to scratch. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Or has any good tips on how short nails can be cut and how to keep Niki still when clipping? Is there any ointment I should apply to her cuts? [Dry skin perhaps? Try changing her to a moist cat food diet (eg: Science Diet growth), and/or a drop of linatone every day or two (but no more than that)]. thanks Jessica Forys dcs undergrad Rutgers University.
