The test is to see if I make it to the mailing list... [You did - I digestify messages before sending them out] I am planning to purchase a pair of ferrets in the very near future. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on whether both should be males or both females or whatever. I assume that makes little difference. Also, at what ages should I purchase them and also at what ages should they be descented and neutered? [It does make a considerable difference: - If you're a first-time owner, I suggest females. They're smaller, less rambunctious, and usually smell less. Unneutered males will often fight when they become a little more mature. Males are much (eg: 100%) larger. - If you get females, you MUST spay them. (See previous issue for reason) - From what I've heard and read, breeding ferrets is not for the beginner. - I'd suggest that you look around and see if you can find an adult ferret that doesn't have a home first. In this way you'll be able to ask about the ferret's temperment. Breeders and petstores (in places where they're legal) usually start offering kits for sale at about 6 weeks. ] Thanks for any information! [Posted in FML 0113]
