I have a few questions about ferrets. I have lived with cats all my life and I appreciate their independence. When I go away for a day or two they are fine when left alone. Are ferrets also as independent? Can they take care of themselves similar to cats? Also, where can I buy one? I've never seen one in a pet store here in town. ( London, Ont.) I will be moving out this fall (finally :-) ) and I am consider very strongly the possibility of a ferret or two. [With few exceptions, all of the members of the list keep their ferrets in cages except for supervised play (couple of hours per day). Ours don't seem to mind - they sleep most of the rest of the time. Sources for ferrets: well, some of the chain pet stores in Toronto do have them occasionally. The most likely place to find them at a pet store is PJ's, of which there are several outlets - Burlington is the closest to you I know of. They're also quite "seasonable" - ferrets mostly show up about 1-2 months after the main litter season - which appears to be late March thru early May. Thus, pet stores will start having them May thru end of June. Eg: in a couple of weeks from now. Alternately, you can go to a breeder - I don't know of any at the moment (the one breeder we did know moved to BC.) You could try asking at some of the major pet stores, or go thru the phone book (mink and chinchilla breeders quite often breed ferrets too)] What are the basic requirements for taking care of them? All I need to know are the basics on these animals. How well behaved are they? Do they like to eat wool? ( My aunt has a cat that has eaten many a nice sweater and blanket) Please help me. I would like to know what I'm getting into before I get into it. Thanx in advance.... UUCP: uunet!watmat!deepthot!alfie BITNET: [log in to unmask] [Posted in FML 0019]
