The American Ferret Association (AFA) announces its 2014 First Annual Call for Proposals from Veterinarians. The purpose of the AFA's Pamela Slack, DVM Medical Research Grant Fund is to promote research that specifically leads to the improvement in clinical care of ferrets, pertaining to captive health, diet, and husbandry in privately owned situations. AFA officers, AFA board members, or AFA committee chairs are not eligible for application. Member veterinarians of AFA will be given first consideration. Funding level is limited to a maximum of $2000 per submission. Available funds are determined by donations to the AFA's Pamela Slack, DVM Medical Research Grant Fund. Competitive proposals must be clearly outlined with projects achievable within 1 year of funding. Priority will be given to projects that are founded on sound research principles, can be fully completed at the level of requested funding, and are likely to result in presentation at a scientific conference, publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and a write up for the American Ferret Report. The due date for receipt of proposals is due Friday, August 29, 2014. The winning proposal will be notified October 1, 2014.
