Dink and Jimmy donated blood today for a ferret in need at UGA veterinary hospital. All went well and both were able to donate a large amount. The staff was wonderful, caring and professional. The zoo tech said this has taught her a great deal about ferrets, but they all learned even more about the strength of our Ferret Community. The UGA ferret was receiving the transfusion as we left and they are hopeful that he will be going home in the next day or so. They won't release information about the specific condition of the ferret for privacy reasons. The Dr. said she didn't know if the transfusions will save him, but she did know he wouldn't have made it without them. The University of GA veterinary hospital has started a database of possible ferret blood donors for future emergencies and are very thankful for the response they have received. I hope that we are never in need of this, but it is great to know it exists. Yes, the ferret community is a strong one in Georgia. [Posted in FML 8123]
