Hi Lonny -- Thanks for your concern. These things aren't levied on me personally -- nor particularly on foreigners -- it's just the way the government is run -- badly and childishly!! Here's another one: The gv't needed money and decided to get it in one of their usual ways -- via fines. Normally you must get your car inspected each year and get a sticker for the windshield. The fee for this goes to the gv't. They announce each inspection period many times on TV and you have a few months to comply. The last time they set an inspection only a few months after the preceding one, and announced it only once, late at night. The inspection period was 15 DAYS. The fine for non-compliance was/is about $135. I was lucky -- an Ethiopian friend alerted me and I got it done on time. I am running into this sort of BS regarding the car sale and other things. It's so out of hand that I've decided to cut my losses and LEAVE -- as you've probably already read. My employee now has POA and can continue with the process to sell the car. If he succeeds, great. What I'll lose is the ability to exchange the profit for US dollars, but I'm ready to relinquish that. [Posted in FML 7900]
