Retaining hair on the head and the tail but losing it elsewhere is actually extremely common with long term or advanced adrenal cases, although there ARE ones who retain body hair but have the top of the head go bald. Certainly some lose tail hair though that is not diagnostic of adrenal disease since it can happen for other reasons (and the rate of that might differ in different parts of country depending on things like climate). There can be individual patterns, too. Lupron depot only lasts for about a month or two depending on the depot type. Melatonin implants are also quite short lived. The daily form of each is even shorter acting, ditto the daily form of deslorelin. Here is why to NOT use the daily form of lupron or of deslorelin since they at best only work very short term and at worst can actually make the adrenal disease accelerate (and both Mike Janke and I used to get mails from people whose ferrets had suffered the latter): http://www.miamiferret.org/24hr_lupron.htm Suprelorin (deslorelin implant), which can be gotten by your vet from Virbac U.S.A., is stronger and much longer acting than Lupron and can also be used with melatonin. Here is how vets can order Suprelorin: http://www.virbacferretsusa.com/about-suprelorinf-implant and here is the list of vets who already have it in stock: <http://www.virbacferretsusa.com/Pet-Owner-Resources/clinic-locator-results> Given the diarrhea has his blood glucose been tested recently? Insulinoma and adrenal disease often appear in the same ferrets, and at least one shared genetic vulnerability for BOTH of these is documented already in some ferrets, with more genetic work coming out over time. Does the diarrhea resemble butterscotch pudding? Runs like that are a not unusual early sign of insulinoma and also of insulinoma that is not well enough controlled.
