I used to have ferrets (for over a decade) so I'm well versed in their care and chaos. My daughter is having a birthday soon and she's proven herself to be very responsible with her goldfish and the family cats, so I've decided to surprise her with a couple of ferrets "of her very own" (which is to say, they'll officially be hers but I will of course be supervising). I would rather adopt than visit a pet store. I have found three (3) ferret rescues in New Jersey: Scales and Tales (http://www.scalesandtails.org) Father Natures (http://www.fathernaturesferretrescue.com) and Hudson Valley (http://hudsonvalleyferret.webs.com/) I have contacted all three shelters via email/web form (as applicable) and via telephone at least twice in the past two weeks and so far nobody has even acknowledged my contact, let alone actually responded to my inquiry. Before I start planning on pet store visits, does anyone know of any *responsive* shelters in New Jersey that can accommodate? Failing that, I once got a ferret from a private breeder/shelter called "It's Raining Ferrets" and that ferret was particularly awesome, and of course "It's Raining Ferrets" is long gone. Does anyone have any leads on a private breeder in New Jersey? [Posted in FML 7751]
