It is certainly perplexing how so many vets and supposed experienced caretakers will claim a ferret ( or any domestic carnivore) has an allergy to CHICKEN - yet they never say anything about being allergic to wheat, barley, corn, or soy - all grains used as common binders in the majority of kibbles fed! Doesn't it make a thinking person wonder WHY would a carnivore develop an allergy to the practically only digestible ANIMAL proteins in those grain based kibbles and NOT develop an allergy to the INdigestible plant products? Plant products that are well known to cause allergic reactions for omnivores! Several ferrets re-homed to me had "vet diagnosed" "chicken allergies" and needed "prescription" kibble and diet. Yet switched away from grain based prescription kibble to grain free kibbles and then on to a raw natural dietary program - not only did their "allergies" disappear - they gained weight, had increased energy, deposits normalized, and they grew new coats! And yes, the majority of their raw offerings are poultry based! Hmmmm, makes one ponder doesn't it? Pondering, Kim [Posted in FML 7659]
