My guy Loki and also a friend's ferret have both been placed on Orbax for similar problems. They both have high liver enzymes with no apparent masses showing on ultrasounds and similar symptoms, including seizure activity. Loki also has a non-resectable adrenal tumor (other adrenal gland was removed 2 yrs ago) and receives melatonin and deslorin implants. A diagnosis of possible hepatitis was given for Marley's condition. Has anyone else had experience with using Orbax for a bacterial intestinal infection? Also, hepatitis/ elevated enzymes with no apparent mass? You should be able to locate it, however, they can migrate pretty far from the site. But you *will* find the lump (like a grain of rice almost) if you search hard enough. Sometimes, with melatonin implants, the implanter had a white plastic plunger on the inside that looked almost exactly like the implant itself, so after administering it, I looked at the syringe in shock going "Oh my gosh, it's still in the syringe!"....and about had a heart attack, as I didn't want to poke the guy twice. Well, after closer inspection, it was just the tip of the plunger, the implant was safe. If you absolutely cannot find the lump, ask the vet to help locate it for you. Also, it has only been 6 weeks. Sometimes, as noted in another post in this particular issue, hair regrowth can take up to 12 weeks. The other thing to consider is that not every ferret may experience hair regrowth. It has been heard by me that if the tumor is cancerous, an implant may not work to help much. Cancerous adrenal tumors are supposed to be rare, though. Another thing to note is that the latest batches this year of Des implants applicator's have been DULL, DULL, DULL. Our vet now uses gas to put them briefly under instead of the ferretone distraction. YMMV but be aware the quality of the syringes seems to have been going downhill. Of course, with a new manufacturing plant location here that will eventually be null; I'm speaking of the imported Australian syringes. And personally, I'm in the same situation as you, the last two I did, I thought WTH? But FINALLY hair regrew seemingly overnight at some point. [Posted in FML 7566]
