So I went to do that survey the AFA was requesting people to do here. And I went to fill out info on my two DMK gurlz. Shenanigans was only about six months old when I adopted her (oddly her cage she was in with the rest of her liter had a date on it, March 17). So she was born the year the rescue occurred. I went and looked up that year because I could not remember it. 2007??? She is FIVE? Ut uh!!!! Sheesh for all I know Crackers is 7+ years of age. She was estimated to be at least 1 1/2 when she was rescued. Geez, does this mean most of our DMK rescues are gone already or will be going in the next year or so? The end of an era. I don't get it. I have a hideous memory, but everything about that dang rescue is so fresh in my mind. I am flabbergasted with my ferrets health given the situation they came from and the stress of a rescue and transitioning into home life. Crackers (the older one) has teeth issues and now all of a sudden during this spring, she has a swollen "who-who". NO other signs of adrenal. She was altered during the rescue. And being she never showed signs of being in heat in all these years with us, I'm assuming there is no way for there to be a remnant from a bad altering? I have her on a plain Melantonin Implant to see if that does the trick or not. I hope I dont see further signs, or I'll have to give her a Suprelorilin implant. I promised my very worst rescues (like Crackers) that they'd never be caged, never want for anything, never have to do anything they didnt want to do, and would never be stressed. This meant no unnecessary vet visits outside of distemper shots every other year and a look over. So I really hope this does the trick. Shenanay looks like she's only a year old, I swear to gosh. Like a kit. Perfection. Both gals are very, very active, well muscled, and have thick fur. I'm so glad I did that survey and understood the reality of things regarding my ferrets ages so when health issues do arise from age or what have you, I wont be floored and upset due to thinking they are much younger than they are. My question here. How many of you still have DMK's and how many do you have? Just curious. Wolfy [Posted in FML 7387]
