Note: This list was adapted from another list that was written for dogs by someone named Stan Rawlinson, and the original can be found here: http://www.doglistener.co.uk/humour/commandments.shtml 10 RESPONSIBLE FERRET OWNERSHIP RULES 1) My life is likely to last 5-8 years. Any separation from you will be painful. 2) Give me time to understand what you want of me and time for me to learn it. I want to please you. 3) Please make my home a safe one for ferrets. We don't always know what is best for us, but you do. 4) Don't be angry with me for long. And don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment... I HAVE ONLY YOU. 5) Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me. 6) Beware that however you treat me, I'LL NEVER forget it. 7) Please take the time to stimulate my mind and body in a way that you know a ferret needs and will enjoy. 8) Before you scold me for being bad or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food, I'm sick, or my body may be getting old and weak 9) Take care of me when I get old. I depend on you for everything. 10) Stay with me on that last and most difficult journey. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or, "let it happen in my absence" Your love will be most tested in the end. Remember, I LOVE YOU!
