Last week a email was sent out by Daphne trying to express the need for Ferret Rescue of Maine for wood pellets. This is shelter mom following up pleading with anyone out there that can help, it would be greatly appreciated. We have at least 12 ferrets here at the shelter that range from 8-11yrs. of age that will stay with us until the end, Yes believe it or not we have 2 that just turned 11yrs. old. If you go to our web site you will see the birthday party that was held here at the shelter on 10/01/11 for all those kids that rage from 8-11. We must be doing something right here in Maine. But anyway, I am very concerned as to how we are going to keep these kids warm for the winter. We have done everything in our power over the summer to raise money, car washes, yard sales and even raffles, but times are tough. None of the events went very well, raising only enough money to squeak by for food, supplies, and a small amount on medical bills. With the older ferrets come higher medical bills, including a wheelchair for 1 of them. More people are surrendering their fuzzies then keeping them due to the economy. It brings tears to my eyes to have to ask for help but we're just not sure what else to do. We have to care for these fuzzies! We pride ourselves on keeping this shelter open for 13+ years and we will keep going, even if it takes food out of our mouths, they are #1. Every dollar donated through paypal or checks received in the mail will go directly to the wood pellet fund. Last year we burned 5 tons at $195 a ton. I'm not asking for me but for those mouths that can't speak, the fuzzies need your help. Total count in the shelter to date is 23, and climbing. All donations through paypal can go to [log in to unmask] Thank You In Advance For Any Help You Can Give!
