I had a ferret who had the same thing happen following a Deslorelin
implant. His carrier looked like a masacre had taken place by the time
I got him home and so I turned around and took him back to the vet. The
vet was eventually able to stop the bleeding by reapplying surgical
glue to the site, but it took a while.

I kept him in cage rest for a couple days to make sure it wouldn't
start bleeding again.

We never knew for certain why it happened. It never recurred. I lost
him the following year to pancreatitis.

I am wondering whether there is some major vein in the scruff area that
if hit with a large enough needle, like those used for implants, could
start bleeding this way since the 3 cases mentioned all involved an
implant i.e., melatonin, microchip and deslorelin?
