A big thank you to all the wonderful people on the FML who immediately stepped up to the plate to help out the 4 ferrets in need. They are safe and sound at The Ferret Inn rescue located in Columbia, MD! (btw, we apologize to all for not originally listing our location!). We were amazed at the amount of people who are interested in taking in these neglected furkids, and who offered up financial assistance towards their vet care! We will be screening folks and asking them to fill out applications, and will work with everyone to determine the best forever home for these kids. We were told they were four males, but alas we have two males and two females. They were very cooperative during triage and as we suspected, they had filthy ears, ear mites and, no, their nails had never been cut. They need baths terribly but I didn't have the heart to pull them away from exploring the playpen with peanuts and tubes and new smells galore. After a good nights sleep , we will have morning baths. Amazingly, with the level of neglect these kids endured they seem bright and unshaken. We have an eve vet appointment scheduled at 5:00pm on Friday, and I will give an update. In addition to blood work and deslorelin implants , we clearly need Buddy's lump aspirated and biopsied, and chordoma surgery scheduled. Jewel's adrenal is advanced so will see our options. Chubby is thin and has adrenal as well. Sophia is the only one with out any obvious maladies , but will see what her blood work reveals. Please keep an eye on our blog where we will soon post some pics of these newbies. http://www.theferretinn.org I feel blessed to have these ferrets finally in the shelter, and have so many to thank for their outpouring of good wishes and support. Sincerely, Nancy Wilson, Director The Ferret Inn [Posted in FML 7068]
