I have had ferrets for a number of years...ok, really more than a decade. And I've been on the FML for all but the first 2 of those years. There's been so much learned in that time - my little ones now have access to total darkness, no access to raisins, etc. Recently, I've lost a couple of oldsters to the regular ferret diseases, and have started contacting local shelters to hopefully adopt a younger ferret to add some "zest" to my (depressingly small) business. One of the questions they always ask is about food. I've had a number of rescues, and they can be extremely picky about what they will and will not eat. So, I've settled on Marshall Farms food and Iams Kitten (about 2/3 MF - I felt strongly I needed a food easily available at Wal-Mart and similar in case of emergency, so the Iams was decided on quite a number of years ago). They get Bandits (chicken) as their primary treat, and I've recently started trying to get them used to Duck Soup (yes, Uncle Jim's... I know that making it myself would be better, but I have neither the time nor space to do so). They are all used to Nutri-Cal, but don't get a lot of it, nor very often, except when sick. I do not want to start a debate, so please, email me offlist at [log in to unmask] with your comments. I and my ferrets thank you for any advice you can give. [DJ] [Posted in FML 6990]
