First of all Merry Christmas fellow ferret lovers :) I don't post much but I do want to say that our ferret mix always has a bag of Purina Kitten Chow in it. Yep it's like cereal. I agree that it certainly isn't an acceptable only food but when it's fed in a mix it helps my old ones get excited about a fresh bowl of food. Understand that in my mix there's also Blue Buffalo, Zupreem & Felidae. The ferrets here also get chicken gravy twice a day. My kidlets do quite well and live long lives.. I do hospice care and have 18 ferrets.. out of those 6 are over 6, 7 are over 5, 3 over 4, and 2 younglings at 2 (they were left in an empty apartment and were mostly starved when they came here) I'm sorry but i'm not a complete purist when it comes to food.. they get raisins at thanksgiving, whip cream every couple of weeks (if you haven't done this and had ferrets with fuzzy white whiskers trying to clean themselves off try it.. it's a hoot), they finish my oatmeal, and clean my spaghetti bowls. The key for me is enrichment they live such short lives 6-8 years that I want them to enjoy what time they have.. and I like my cookies and cakes.. ferrets should too.. I don't have a higher than normal incidence of insulinoma or adrenal either here.... I sure wish I didn't have any.. they have mostly natural light and a dark place to sleep.. just like for a human.. everything in moderation.. Blessings to all..
