Dear FML Friends: In our travels as rescuers, we all encounter other types of rescues. Please pass this information along to any other Northern Illinois exotic rescues you may know of: My name is Kim Crivello and I am a Shelter Manager with the Greater Chicago Ferret Association. The GCFA does educational events called Meet the Ferrets. When we do an event, we bring a table display, handouts about the GCFA and general info about ferrets. We bring our playpen and usually 9-10 of a variety of our own GCFA shelter ferrets. We bring ours because we know their temperaments and they are used to being out in public and handled by a variety of people. We bring harnesses and leashes for their security when we take them out of their playpen. We are very hands-on with allowing anyone who wants to pet or hold a ferret. We stay for as long as someone wants to talk about ferrets. In 2011 I am coordinating events called: Meet the Ferrets Rocks the Exotics. It is the first Saturday of every month at the Schaumburg Petco (starting 2/5) from 10a-1p. If you are available, I would love to have you join us and educate the public about your rescues. If you know of any other exotic rescuers, please let them know and ask them to contact me. My only rule is: no dogs and cats. I want the misunderstood pets to have their day in the sun and we will promote education and responsible ownership of all unique pets. This venture is very exciting as we join forces with small rescues and, together, make a huge impact on the lives of all homeless pets. Let me know if you are interested.
