It's been a couple of weeks since Wes went to sleep on Earth and awoke in Heaven. He was 76 at his passing and an animal lover all his life with especial devotion to ferrets as the Pres. and CEO of the now-closed Ferret & Dove Sanctuary in northwest Florida. You see in Heaven and at the Rainbow Bridge nearby, no-time passes...it's always "now" just as all the animals and birds already know while they're sharing the Earth with the rest of us. So last night Wes sent his saddened wife, Susan a specially-nice dream... showing him younger and hearty, striding towards and being striven-towards-by a tremendous concatenation of critters, including hundreds of ferrets who've passed our doors... There was Smokey Joe Oldster who had been fed nothing but birds' seed by his former owners and was turned in to us by the animal cops of another county's than ours. There was Zeus Mellowfellow, Jasmine Miss Boss and Zinc(-a-dink-a-zoo) who were the first three we ever rescued after Snuggles LuWeasey, also there, and each with the bright-furred glows of health and youth. There were some of his personal favorites like Duff MacDuff and Appolonia Kissyface who became local sensations after our first local news interview. We brought these two to a local renaissance faire and folks were going, "hey, we seen you on TV!" (to the ferrets:) Everyone looked fantastic and each individual ferret, dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, dove, cockatiel, even some of the wild birds and squirrels we had rescued, revived and then turned over to the local Wildlife Sanctuary for releases back into one of the National Parks, even some of them were on-hand. Wes was surrounded by animals and birds of nearly every sort, but overwhelmingly more than any other by the ferrets he so loved and whom he lived to get his ferret-kisses from. In a supernal glow of love that enveloped this enormous group with one very happy human spirit at its center, they faded from my dream-vision and I awakened, still feeling that huge loving glow.
